BREAKING NEWS:

Four-year-old quadruplets and their mother were injured when the van they were traveling in flipped after a collision on Bear Street in Costa Mesa, according to Costa Mesa police.

The children – two boys and two girls — and their mother, 30, whose name has not been released, were treated for cuts and bruises at Western Medical Center, according to the Costa Mesa Fire Department. One of the children was treated for facial injuries, but firefighters said the injuries were not serious.

The white Dodge carrying the children was traveling north on Bear Street and turned left to enter the north 405 Freeway when a brown moving truck ran a red light, broadsided the van as it crossed the intersection and caused the vehicle to roll and come to a halt on the onramp’s entrance, according to Sgt. Rob Sharpnack.

No one was ejected from the vehicle and all passengers were able to exit as the van lay on its side with its windows shattered.

South and northbound traffic had to be diverted. Police directed cars at Paularino/Yukon Avenue and Bear Street away from the scene and cars were prevented from accessing the 405 north onramp at Bear Street.

Traffic backed up past Shiffer park with the right turn lane closed on Bear Street at Paularino/Yukon Avenue.
