Elephant Bar Tournament
SANTA BARBARA — UCI Irvine, ranked No. 5 in the nation, fell to No. 10 Long Beach State, 30-25, 30-27, 30-27, to finish fourth at the tournament at UC Santa Barbara Saturday.
The Anteaters, who used all 10 players in a variety of combinations, were led by Jon Steller’s 11 kills and four service aces. Freshman Alex DaPron had a career-high eight kills, while senior Mike Ortiz hit .750 on six kills in eight attempts with no errors out of the middle for UC Irvine (2-2).
Jordan DuFault played in two games and recorded six kills and three blocks. Freshman middle blocker Kevin Wynne hit .500 (5-0-10) and totaled a team-high six blocks.
Long Beach State (2-1) was led by Dean Bittner with 17 kills followed by Dan Alexander with 13 kills, hitting .800 (13-1-15) and Paul Lotman with 10 kills.
The Anteaters play host to Pacific Friday at 7 p.m. in the Bren Events Center.
