Plenty of high school basketball in store tonight

Newport Harbor High and Sage Hill School will begin league play in boys’ basketball tonight, highlighting the local games on tap that also features an intriguing Newport-Mesa District matchup in girls’ basketball.

The Newport Harbor boys (10-5), who finished second at the Dan Bambauer Classic at Marin Catholic, will play at Esperanza to begin Sunset League play tonight at 7:30.

The Sage Hill boys, who spent last week in Hawaii playing in the Maui Invitational, start Academy League competition at 7:30 p.m., as do the Lightning girls, who play at CVC at 6 p.m.

The Corona del Mar girls play host to fellow Newport-Mesa District school, Estancia, at 7 p.m.

Estancia and Costa Mesa both have home games in boys’ basketball. The Eagles face Los Amigos at 6 p.m. and the Mustangs take on Sonora at 7 p.m.

The Corona del Mar boys took the week off and play against Beckman Wednesday at 7 p.m. at CdM.
