Woman struck by truck dies from her injuries at hospital
A Costa Mesa woman who suffered severe injuries when she was hit by a car died over the weekend, coroners said.
Laura Monteleone, 34, died at 4:10 p.m. Sunday of “severe, blunt head trauma” after she was struck by a Chevy Silverado while crossing the intersection at Wilson Street and Center Way Dec. 27. According to Costa Mesa Police, motorist Sergio Rico Delgado, 34, failed to notice Monteleone as she crossed the street in front of him. Delgado’s light allegedly turned green, and he turned and hit the pedestrian at about 10 mph, police said.
Monteleone was hospitalized at Western Medical Center for a skull fracture, brain trauma and multiple rib fractures. She died three days later.
Police said Delgado was not intoxicated, but was driving with an expired license.
