UC Irvine junior pitcher Scott Gorgen has been named to the Louisville Slugger Preseason All-American first team by Collegiate Baseball.

Gorgen, who has earned six postseason All-America honors in two seasons, returns to lead an Anteaters squad that posted 47 wins last season and advanced to the College World Series for the first time in the program’s Division I history.

Gorgen finished 13-3, tying him for third in the nation in victories. The right-hander was among the nation’s leaders in strikeouts with 117 (22nd) and earned-run average at 2.83 (80th).

Gorgen pitched six complete games and went 3-1 in the postseason en route to picking up Round Rock Regional All-Tournament honors last season.

Gorgen was selected to the Brooks Wallace Award watch list and was also named an NCBWA Preseason All-American earlier this month.

The Anteaters open the season in a first of a three-game series at Nevada on Feb. 22.
