It was Costa Mesa’s season opener in the tournament hosted by El Dorado.

CYPRESS — Preston Oklejas scored 18 points and hit one three-pointer in the Lightning’s pool-play loss in the Brethren Christian Tournament Thursday night at Brethren Christian.

Connor Rose added 10 points for Sage Hill (0-2), which is playing without Jamie McGee and Nick Witte. The two are transitioning from the football season, first-year coach Jeff Beeler said.

The Lightning play today against Westminister to end play in the Brethren Christian Tournament.

PERRIS — Senior forward Kyle Caldwell scored 26 points in the Sailors’ loss in a semifinal of the Citrus Hills Tournament Thursday.

Senior guard Taylor Friend added 10 points, including two three-pointers, in the Sailors’ effort.

Newport Harbor (2-1) will play today at 7:30 p.m. against Cajon at Riverside Poly High in the third-place game.
