HUNTINGTON BEACH — The Newport Harbor boys’ team recorded a combined time of 1 hour, 18 minutes, 39 seconds to win the Sunset League title on Tuesday at Central Park, edging Esperanza by more than two minutes.
Sailors senior Rex Nelson won the individual title with a time of 15:17 and senior teammate Mike Puncel placed third in 15:28.
Junior Jake Dawson (seventh in 15:51), senior Murphy Hitchcock (ninth in 15:53), junior Michael Taylor (12th in 16:10), as well as senior Carlo Urquidez and junior Saul Delarosa finished tied for 18th, both with a time of 16:27 for the Sailors.

HUNTINGTON BEACH — The Newport Harbor girls’ finished third Tuesday, behind victorious Fountain Valley and runner-up Esperanza.
The Sailors combined time of 1 hour, 33 minutes, 40 seconds was 71 seconds off the pace set by Fountain Valley.
Junior Erica Pearson finished in fifth place in 18:07 to lead the Sailors.
The Newport Harbor contingent also included senior Sophia Ditty (10th in 18:24), freshman Tori Sarris (15th in 18:48), junior Desiree Alexander (20th in 19:08), senior Jenny Cain (21st in 19:13), sophomore Ava Nelson (24th in 19:29) and senior Stephanie Case (33rd in 20:02).

DANA POINT — Kaleigh Gilchrist and Chase Wilson helped the Sailors add their fourth win of the season, beating Laguna Beach at Salt Creek Tuesday.
Gilchrist and Wilson placed first and second, respectively, for Newport Harbor (4-0) before leaving to join team USA in its competition against Australia at Huntington Beach.
The Sailors’ Victor Done finished first for the fourth straight time in the shortboard competition and the girls’ longboard squad swept the top three positions to win its fourth straight.
Devyn Hartnett placed first, Hailey Sandberg finished second and Courtney Mcphee placed third for Newport.
Andy Delorme’s first and Robert Guy’s third-place finishes helped the boys’ longboard team to victory and the bodyboard squad won their heat with Yuji Kanbayashi finishing in first and Joe Suzuki placing second for the Sailors.
The final two boys’ shortboard heats split wins with Laguna as Bobby Okvist took first in his heat and Tyler Tarlow took second with Addison Giddings placing third.

MOORPARK — Senior Samantha Hill scored two goals and Katy Storch added a third for the Sailors in the Sunset League game Tuesday at Moorpark College.
Sophomore Claire Ramser had assists on both Hill goals, while senior Claire Josephson posted the assist on Storch’s goal, which gave the visitors a 3-0 lead.
Junior goalie Jessie Bass made nine saves and Coach Devon Kelly also singled out the strong play in the midfield of senior Natalie Mitchell.
The win upped the Sailors record to 18-4-2, 7-2 in league, heading into the regular-season finale Thursday at Harvard-Westlake. A win Thursday could give the Sailors at least a share of the league crown, according to Kelly, who was unaware of the specifics of the league standings.

CORONA DEL MAR — The Sea Kings eased past Irvine on Tuesday in a Pacific Coast League home match.
Senior Kate Stimac led CdM (15-2), sweeping her matches in singles along with the doubles team of Azadeh Nazemi and Rebecca Beyer who also swept.
The Sea Kings, ranked No. 3 in the CIF Southern Section Division I coaches’ poll, play at University today at 3:15 p.m. in their final Pacific Coast League match.

HUNTINGTON BEACH — The visiting Sailors clinched third place and a guaranteed berth in the CIF Southern Section playoffs in the Sunset League match Tuesday.
Senior Emily Gelbaum, the No. 7 seed in the league individual singles tournament that begins today, won two of three sets at No. 2 singles for the Sailors.
Newport Harbor’s No. 1 doubles team of seniors Alex McIntosh and Brittany Sowers are the No. 4 seed in the league doubles tournament, while the No. 2 doubles team of seniors Allie Shea and Avalon Sigalos are seeded sixth for the Tars (13-5, 5-4 in league).
The Sailors complete league play Friday against Fountain Valley, a match postponed last week due to the fires.

NEWPORT COAST — The host Lightning swept, 25-17, 25-19, 25-12, in the Academy League match Tuesday.
Sage Hill (7-2) was led by Mackenzie Bronk who posted 10 digs to go along with her five aces.
Sally Mace also produced for the Lightning, recording seven kills and four aces.

IRVINE — Sophomore Dydney Brombal had 17 kill and 17 digs to lead the Sea Kings to a 14-25, 25-19, 26-24, 25-18 victory in the Pacific Coast League road match Tuesday.
With the win and the cancellation of CdM’s league match against Laguna Hills, the Sea Kings have clinched the outright league crown, their second straight.
Senior Ashley Pries had 27 digs, sophomore Madie Smith had 33 assists and 17 digs, junior Conley Kipp had nine kills and one solo block and senior Kara Chatham had four service aces for the winners (13-7, 6-0 in league).
Corona del Mar plays host to Irvine Thursday, before meeting Newport Harbor in the annual Battle of the Bay Friday.
