UC Irvine junior Laura Olvera was one of three to share the Big West Conference Athlete of the Week award in women’s cross country.

Olvera finished ninth among 322 runners with a time of 21 minutes, 13 seconds over 6,000 meters at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark., Saturday. Her showing helped the Anteaters to a fourth-place finish in the field of 41 teams.

This is the third time Olvera has earned the award this season. She shared this week’s honor with UC Santa Barbara’s Bethany Nickless and Long Beach State’s Sarah Apgar.

The UCI men’s and women’s teams compete today in the Titan Invitational at Cal State Fullerton.
