Harris ribbons volunteer inundated with responses
A Costa Mesa woman organizing a memorial for 21-year-old former Huntington Beach Oilers pitcher Sara Noel Harris said Wednesday she has been inundated with e-mails and phone calls after an article in the Pilot highlighted her plans to decorate Adams Avenue with ribbons Saturday in Harris’ memory.
While most responses have been positive, the memorial plans have drawn fire from people concerned Harris’ death was alcohol related, said organizer Gabriella Hahn.
“In no way are we condoning drinking and driving,” Hahn said. “What we are saying is that her family are still people and it still hurts.”
Harris died Sunday when she crashed the black Audi she was driving into a traffic signal.
Hahn will decorate Adams Avenue from Placentia Avenue to Mesa Verde Drive with ribbons in Harris’ memory at 9 a.m. Saturday.
An unrelated memorial fund has been set up in Harris’ name at Wells Fargo Bank. Donations to the Sara Harris Memorial Fund may be made at any Wells Fargo branch under the account number 578 904 1836.
