Charles Peyton Cotton

Charles Peyton Cotton, son of Edna P. Cotton and Charles M. Cotton, was born July 17, 1919 and died on October 8, 2007. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Audrey Bishop Cotton, his sisters, Mary Ann Cotton Green, Jean Cotton Smith and Priscilla Cotton Clark. Chuck graduated from the Hill School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, attended Menlo College and Stanford University in order to become a pilot in the Army Air Corp. He retired from the United States Air Force as a Lt. Colonel having served in World War II and the Korean War where he lead the first squadron of night attack bombers to cross the Pacific. Investment management followed an early career in the oil business. Chuck, a resident of Balboa for the past seventy years, was an avid yachtsman, pilot, bird hunter, bicyclist and ham radio operator. At the time of his death he held memberships at the Newport Harbor Yacht Club, Cruising Club of America and La Grulla in Mexico. He is survived by Christina Gannon and her husband Bob, Cece Fowler and her husband Mack, Charlie Cotton and his wife Diane, and John Cotton and his wife Cindy, as well as eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A family graveside service will take place at Pacific View Memorial Park on October 13. There will be a Celebration Of Life for Chuck and Audrey at the Newport Harbor Yacht Club on Monday, October 15 from four to seven o’clock. The family wishes to thank Catherine Jackson, Camelita Perlas, Tony Tagamolila and Amy Fernando who provided loving care to Chuck in the final years of his life.
