Fractures, Red Rum advance
Compound Fractures and Red Rum, the top two teams during regular season play, both picked up first-round playoff victories to advance in Thursday League postseason play in the city of Laguna Beach Community Services Department’s summer 16” slow pitch softball action.
Compound Fractures 16, Hamstrings 1
Regular season champion Compound Fractures had little problem in defeating the South Laguna Hamstrings in the postseason opener.
William Maniaci tossed a two-hitter for Compound Fractures, allowing singles to Joel Harris and Mike Wallace. He faced only 17 batters in five innings.
Steve Hurst hit two solo home runs, Chris Mauro and Jason Steris each had a home run and single, and Jason Watson tripled and singled, to lead the Compound Fractures offense.
Red Rum 5, Vipers Minions 4
Red Rum, runner-up to Compound Fractures in the regular-season race, got an RBI single from Ryan Divel in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 4-4 tie.
Andrew Broderick singled three times, and Josh Fara tripled and singled for Red Rum.
Griffin Cogorno and Aidan Leedom each hit a two-run home run and singled for Vipers Minions.
Vipers Minions 9, Hamstrings 5
Griffin Cogorno hit a three-run home run in the first inning and also singled, and Kai Bond hit a two-run homer in the fourth and also singled, as Vipers Minions stayed alive in the postseason by eliminating the Hamstrings.

Wednesday League
Knights 8, Lost Boys 4
Teyo Moore hit two home runs to finish with three RBI and Scott Borthwick, Scott Martin and Nate Pivaroff also homered, as the regular season champion Knights won their playoff opener.
The Lost Boys, who outhit the Knights, 12-9, received a four-for-five bat from Matt Johnson.
Mesa Verde Partners 15, Angels 2 Jeff Pick hit a three-run home run and added four singles to lead a potent Mesa Verde offensive spree that included 19 hits.
Jeff Greenough had two homers account for four runs, Steve McKinlay had two solo homers and a single, Bob Bonn homered twice, and Danny Lane homered an singled to add to the attack.
Lost Boys 4, Angels 3
In an elimination game, Cedric Channels had a solo home run and single and Jake Swett delivered the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift the Lost Boys past the Angels.
Marco Johnson had a two-run homer, double and single for the Halos.

Monday League
Rotary 18, Sac Johnson 1
Rotary took over first-place in the standings by whipping Sac Johnson.
Steve Sweet went three for three and Don Johnson went three for four with a double to lead Rotary’s 15-hit attack.
Bamboo Bar and Grill 9, Island Shade 4
Alexander Carter nearly hit the cycle with a home run, double and single, and Terry Millikin and Wyatt Strateman both singled twice, to lead Bamboo Bar and Grill to its second-straight win.
Coby Naess matched Carter with a home run, double and single, and teammate Mike Busalacchi doubled and singled three times for Island Shade, which was eliminated from playoff contention with the loss.
Tuesday League
Saloon 14, Sandpiper 8
Lead-off hitter Michael McKenzie had two home runs and a single as the Saloon captured the regular-season title with one week left in the regular season.
The Saloon’s next three batters in their line-up, Scott Martin, Kevin Mohan and Andrew Smith, each had a home run and single.
The Saloon took control of the game by scoring 11 runs in the third inning.
Scott Borthwick hit a fourth-inning grand slam, and Jeff Heminghaus had a home run and two singles to lead Sandpiper’s offense.
Team Viagra 15, FD Mavericks 5
Dave Mulvaney hit three home runs and a pair of singles in a five-for-five performance to lead a 19-hit attack by Team Viagra. Chad Gibbs had a double and two singles for Team Viagra.
C-Dawgs 5, Forty Majority 1
Justin Martin homered and singled for the C-Dawgs, who won despite being out-hit by Forty Majority, 12-8.
