Newport Harbor 13,
Estancia 5
COSTA MESA — The Sailors remained undefeated, improving to 4-0 after the nonleague match at Estancia Wednesday.
Newport Harbor top two doubles teams of Brittany Sowers-Kristen Kahn and Allie Shea-Avalon Sigalos swept their sets.
Ellie Edles, Estancia’s No. 1 singles player, swept against Newport Harbor, defeating Liz Cramer (6-2), Emily Gelbaum (6-2) and Alex McIntosh (6-4).
“She’s a very talented player,” Newport Harbor co-coach Kristen Case said of Edles. “She’s tough to beat. She’s steady from the baseline, but she mixes it up. She just hits it hard. [McIntosh] had a good set against her. Ellie was just a little tougher in the end.”
Gelbaum and McIntosh earned two victories each for the Sailors, who play host to Capistrano Valley today at 3:15 p.m.
“I’m very excited,” Case said of the Sailors’ hot start. “Our No. 1 and 2 doubles have been awesome. Everyone is really enjoying [being on the team]. It’s been a really good start.”
