RETAIL ROUNDUP:
COSTA MESA — It’s still late summer, but the La Perla shop at South Coast Plaza is starting to look like Halloween — or maybe Valentine’s Day with a dark twist.
The lingerie dealer recently debuted its new Black Label Collection, which sports a different theme every season.
The fall-winter line, which will be on display through December, is steeped in medieval and gothic imagery — which translates to plush silver crosses, mock-chastity-belt neck collars and other garments that blend the sensual and the spooky.
“We’re telling a different story every season,” said fit specialist Brie Nishimura. “This year it’s kind of medieval and classic. We’re touching on the monks.”
La Perla offers sets of basic clothing items with prices starting around $400. In addition, the store offers a $25 CD containing mood music by various artists.

Gen X store closing after 11 years
The Gen X Living store on Newport Boulevard boasts some of the oddest-looking home furnishings around, including a series of plush chairs shaped like a woman’s high-heel shoe.
Manager Dan Tran said they were among his most popular items when the store opened in Costa Mesa 11 years ago.
Now, sadly, that era is coming to a close. Gen X Living will shut its doors permanently Sept. 17, and the store has been having a closing sale since June, with beds, chairs, tables, TV cabinets and other items selling at vastly reduced prices.
As the store’s name implies, the merchandise is aimed at a youthful crowd.
“We’re geared toward young professionals — not baby boomers,” Tran said.
Gen X Living is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., (949) 650-4369.
Earn Armani credit at fashion show
Neiman Marcus at Fashion Island will have another fall collection on display Wednesday through Saturday, as the store hosts its annual fall Armani Event.
For four days, the store will show off the latest Giorgio Armani clothes for men and women and give customers a chance to earn extra credit for the future.
Customers who purchase items on a Neiman Marcus charge card earn one point for each dollar they spend; later, they can transfer those points into credit. During the Armani Event, the store will offer bonus points to customers who purchase Armani products.
“It’s kind of like airline miles,” said Public Relations Manager Michaele Hall. “You can cash it in for merchandise. You can cash it in for gift cards or something like that.”
