THE HARBOR COLUMN:Yacht expo perfect time to discuss taxes

In my column last week, I was telling you about the good news from the newly adopted state budget with the restoration of the 90-day yacht club. I explained how this provision will generate maritime jobs and, in the end, will generate more sales taxes than those taxes lost at the time of the sale.

The passage of the budget came at a perfect time as the 29th annual Lido Yacht Expo is back in Newport Harbor. The West’s premier in-the-water big boat show is setting up at Lido Marina Village, and the brokers at the show can explain how the tax provision can help you.

This show will have more than 250 yachts for you to tour, and the new, upgraded amenities onboard never cease to amaze me year after year. The show helps our marine-related industries with sales, and helps get people into boating.

The show not only helps those in the maritime field, but in other businesses such as restaurants, hotels and car rentals. So, my captain’s orders are for you to round up the family and visit the boat show

The boat show runs Sept. 6 through 9, opening at noon. You can find out more information, such as show hours, ticket prices, and especially the free parking by going to www.lidoyachtexpo.com/ or calling (949) 757-5959.

Tip of the week: Use the free parking and shuttle to get to the Lido Yacht Expo. You can avoid the congestion and stress of parking at the show by catching the boat show shuttle from Newport Technology Center at 500 Superior Ave. My family uses the shuttle to come see our live radio broadcast every year, and that reminds me, my live radio broadcast will be at 11 a.m. Sept. 8.

Lastly, my radio show has moved to a new time slot from 11 a.m. to noon every Saturday. This will allow us not to be bumped by any earlier afternoon Angel baseball games with the pre-shows starting at noon.
