SURFING SOAPBOX:Big weekend beckons
Here we are, not only heading into the home stretch of summer, but looking at a scorching hot Labor Day weekend ahead to put the finishing touches on another terrific summer.
For all of us who live here, this is the beginning of our Indian Summer.
The “black ball” is lifted and we can again surf were we like, which is nice.
The Sawdust Festival and the Pageant of the Masters wrap, both of which were great this year.
So if you haven’t had a chance to go to either, perhaps you might want to go this weekend while you can. Sawdust continues through Sunday, but the Festival of Arts and Pageant of the Masters will end today.
I’m a big believer in supporting our local businesses and lifeguards.
It’s rumored that we might even get our first south swell of the summer, which means that if we’re lucky we might have the Brooks Street surfing contest to look forward too.
My gut feeling is we will be lucky to have it this year the way this summer has gone.
We have been blessed with some incredibly warm water this summer, before the prominent northwest wind began blowing again this week, cooling water temperatures for the first time all summer.
In another related beach news, the Labor Day weekend four-man volleyball tournament will be happening this weekend down at Victoria Beach. So come on down and cheer “” or heckle, for that matter. Either way it’s going to be a great weekend here in Laguna Beach.
So enjoy it and keep our lovely beaches clean.
Peace.
