Deadline for juried shows nears
The deadline for entries to the Laguna Beach Arts Commission’s first annual Juried Fine Art Exhibition is Sept. 10.
The selected artwork will be on exhibit from Oct. 15 to Nov. 23 at City Hall.
The show will be adjudicated by Laguna Beach gallery owner Peter Blake.
His eponymous modern and contemporary art gallery has received both national and regional acclaim since its opening in 1993.
Entries will be accepted from Orange County artists ages 18 and up.
A nonrefundable $20 entry fee for up to three entries must accompany submissions. Checks should be made payable to the City of Laguna Beach.
Work must be original and executed within the past two years.
The first place winner will receive $1,000; second place will receive $500 and third place will take $250.
An award ceremony will be at 5 p.m. Nov. 1 before Art Walk at City Hall.

Abstract Expressionist to show work
Mira Lisa will debut her brightly colored, abstract Expressionist paintings at a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. during Art Walk, Sept. 6, at Marion Meyer Contemporary Art.
The artist works with oils, acrylics, palette knife and brush, and also writes poetry. She studied under Francois Gilot, Picasso’s apprentice.

Art directory deadline looms
The deadline for inclusion in the city’s 2008 Art Directory is Sept. 21.
The directory is a listing of artists residing, working or exhibiting in Laguna Beach, arts organizations and galleries within the city.
To be included, interested parties must complete the online form at www.lagunabeachcity.net. Listing in the directory is free.
Directories will be available in Jan. 2008.
