HENDERSON IN U.S. OPEN

UC Irvine golfer Selanee Henderson will participate in the U.S. Women’s Open, beginning Thursday at Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C.

Henderson, who just completed her junior year at UCI, is playing as an amateur. She is scheduled to tee off at 6:01 a.m.

Henderson shot 151 at Lake Merced Country Club on June 11 to qualify for her first professional event.

UCI’S EDICK LAUDED

UC Irvine senior golfer Brian Edick has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 8 at-large first team in voting conducted by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Edick, an economics major, was named 2007 Big West Conference Player of the Year after leading UCI with a 71.85 scoring average and posting four top-10 finishes. He was named the Big West Golfer of the Month for March after winning the Fresno State Lexus Classic. The first-team All-Big West selection placed sixth at the conference championship.

By earning first-team Academic All-District honors, Edick advances to the national ballot for Academic All-American consideration.

Honorees must must be a starter or important reserve, have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and must be at least a sophomore.

SUMMER BASEBALL ACADEMY

The Lifeletics summer baseball academy will be held at three separate locations in Orange County in June and July.

The academy, for children ages 6-13, will be at Wagon Wheel Park in Trabuco Canyon from Monday through Friday, July 9-13, July 16-20 and July 23-27. It will also be held at the Anaheim Little League fields in Anaheim Hills Monday through Friday and July 9-13, as well as at the Huntington Valley Little League fields in Huntington Beach from July 16-20, July 23-27, July 30-Aug. 3 and Aug. 6-10.

All dates are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Cost is $195, or $375 for two siblings.

UCI SIGNS BARTLETT

The UC Irvine women’s tennis team has received a national letter of intent from Brooke Bartlett to attend and compete in women’s tennis, Anteater Coach Mike Edles announced.

Bartlett, a recent graduate of Fountain Valley High, is a four-star athlete according to TennisRecruiting.net.

She ranks 25th in California and 107th in the nation in juniors.

“We are very excited to have Brooke join our team as she is strong in both singles and doubles,” Edles said.

“Coming off our breakthrough season, we look forward to Brooke’s contributions to help lift our program to an even higher level.”
