A’s subdue Angels

In the opening game for the Tournament of Champions qualifier at Seaview Little League, the A’s overpowered the Angles, 9-1, in Majors Division postseason play at LeBard Field.

A’s starter Brad Owens threw four strong innings and gave up just one hit and one walk while striking out six.

A’s catcher Nick Niemiec continued his hot hitting streak going two for two with two RBI.

Connor Ahern, the A’s ace closer, shut down the Angels in two innings of relief. He also contributed to the A’s scoring with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning.

Majors Division

A’s 9, Yankees 2

In a key matchup between two of the top teams in the division, the A’s defeated the Yankees in a game that took nine innings to decide.

Yankees pitcher Zack Gates and A’s hurler Grant Mayeaux were outstanding. Gates pitched 6 2/3 scoreless innings and struck out 12; Mayeaux, meanwhile, threw five coreless innings and struck out seven.

Max Gibbs completed the game for the A’s, striking out six while allowing two unearned runs.

Gibbs also was the offensive star of the game as he drove in six runs on three hits, two of which were a two-run home run and a grand slam.

Also getting hits for the A’s were Kevin Engesser who singled three times, Mayeaux singled and doubled and Robert Cornwell, Brandon Macedo, and Jacob Baugh each singled.

The Yankees were led offensively by Dee Atwood who went two for three with a double and RBI. Jake Bauers and Patrick Poss both singled.

A’s 5, Angels 3A’s pitchers Grant Mayeaux and Max Gibbs combined to strike out 11 and surrendered just two hits en route to the victory.

A’s hits were recorded by Mayeaux, Robert Cornwell, Noah Bartos, Jacob Baugh and Tyler Hammock, whose single in the second inning drove in two runs.

Robert Baker and Patrick Shearer accounted for the Angels’ two hits.

Minor A Division

Twins 9, Orioles 2

Jack Shearer, Ben Vaught, Ben Roth, Gavin Springer, Andrew DeLoach and Tyler Somerville all took a turn on the mound as the Twins subdued the Orioles.

Offensively for the Twins, Gavin Springer doubled and singled twice, Ben Vaught had a pair of deep hits to center field, Roth, DeLoach, Daniel Amaral, Jojo Amaral, Jack Shearer and Stuart Morton all singled and Micah Bartle had an RBI.

Alec Barbisan made a key defensive stop for the Twins.

Minor B Division

Orioles 19, Angels 0

Nick Pratto hit a pair of doubles and drove in four runs, Hagen Danner went three for three with a pair of RBI, Noah Willis had two hits and scored four runs and Jacob Cable scored three times, as the Orioles ran past the Angels.

Mets 19, Angels 2Ethan Austwick belted two home runs, Brett Miali went three for three with a pair of walks and four runs scored, Cameron Prohaska had three RBI and Ryan Ferrin drove in two runs, as the Mets overpowered the Angels.

Jack Rogers, Sasha Kaboli, Chase Foreman, Chase Urban, Jack MacDowell and Ismael Ralsten also contributed to the Mets’ offense.

Chase Forman and Jack MacDowell tamed the Halos for the most part, save a two-run home run hit by 8-year-old Jack Furry.
