The Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce has invited Newport-Mesa residents to help celebrate and honor the life and service of former Newport Beach Mayor Evelyn Hart as this year’s citizen of the year.

Hart will be honored June 14 at the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel and Spa.

She spent 16 years on the City Council and since she retired from local government has not stopped helping her community.

She is on the board of directors of the Friends of Oasis, and on July 1 will be named president of the Friends of Oasis.

“We love her…. She loves Newport Beach and has always supported this community and is just out there as an advocate for everything that’s good about this community,” Oasis Senior Center director Celeste Jardine-Haug said.

There will be a cocktail hour, dinner and dancing while the Don Peterson Orchestra plays. Outgoing chamber board members will be honored along with Hart and past recipients of the citizen of the year award.

Tickets cost $150, which includes valet, wine and dinner, and can be purchased by calling the chamber at (949) 729-4400.
