THE LAST WORD:A man of principle
FOR THE RECORD
Sunday’s story “A man of principle,” should have said that former Assemblyman Gil Ferguson died May 6.
*****************************
Saturday, the community had its chance to pay tribute to one who gave them so much in return.
Gil Ferguson, a Marine veteran and a former assemblyman, developer and communications professional, died last week at age 84. But his legacy in Newport-Mesa will live on as one who always kept the community’s interest at heart.
Sometimes prickly in his principles, Ferguson nonetheless stuck to them, even when they weren’t popular. His wasn’t the politics of exploitation. He didn’t push the political panic buttons just for the sake of gaining popularity. He fought for things he believed in, and he believed wholeheartedly that what he believed in was right.
We don’t find that much these days.
So long, Gil. It was a pleasure knowing you. Newport-Mesa is much better because of you and has lost much now that you are gone.
