SHORT TAKES:Police to grow enforcement of ‘Click It or Ticket’ law
Costa Mesa and Newport Beach police departments are participating in the state’s “Click It or Ticket” seat-belt enforcement campaign. Now through June 3, departments will increase enforcement as part of a statewide public awareness campaign.
According to statistics from both departments, California has the fourth-highest seat-belt use rate in the nation, with the 2006 Click It or Ticket campaign resulting in an increase in the state’s seat-belt use rate from 92.5% in 2005 to 93.4% in 2006.
California’s seat belt law requires that every passenger in a car, including the driver, wear a seat belt at all times.
Seat-belt violation tickets range from $80-$91 for adults.
