Coroner investigates boy’s death
The Orange County coroner’s office is investigating the death of a 16-year-old Costa Mesa boy who was found unresponsive and not breathing at a Newport Coast home Friday morning.
The boy had reportedly been drinking Thursday night before he arrived at the home in the 100 block of Sea Terrace, Newport Beach Police Sgt. Evan Sailor said. It’s possible he drank more at the home, but police weren’t sure.
An adult in the home called the police just before 6:40 a.m. Friday for medical assistance when the teen was found not breathing. He was taken to Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian where he was pronounced dead about an hour after police received the call.
Any other details of what happened were sketchy Friday because of the ongoing investigation and the fact that the people police interviewed are under 18 years old.
Coroner’s investigators have not yet determined an official cause of death and are waiting for toxicology and other reports, officials said.
Sailor said they believe it was an accidental death.
