GREER’S BEST BUYS:The Bloomie’s of all Bloomie’s stores
We await South Coast Plaza’s new Bloomingdale’s store, which opens at 9 a.m. Friday. Attend the ribbon-cutting event at 8:30 a.m.(second-level interior entrance) — the first 100 guests receive a Little Brown Bag breakfast. One super-lucky guest will receive a $1,000 gift card to the store. The three-level store features a glass facade that glows at night, two four-star restaurants opening this fall, and delectable fashion boutiques in the store, including Jimmy Choo, Armani Collezioni and Louis Vuitton.
It’s unlike other Bloomingdale’s stores due to its sheer size (292,000 square feet) and variety of merchandise. Choose from a variety of products for the home, expanded men’s apparel, designer boutiques, incredible designer shoes and handbags, as well as a hip children’s section featuring the latest in Ralph Lauren, Juicy, Flowers by Zoe, Diesel, Seven for all Mankind, True Religion, Splendid, Ella Moss, Lost, Quicksilver and Joseph Abboud.
The opening-day celebrations include trunk shows, specials and personal appearances.
Bloomingdale’s at South Coast Plaza will be open 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday; 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call (714) 824-4540.
NEW LINE AT BARNEYS
Barneys Co-op at South Coast Plaza offers young, urban stylish collections for women and men from up-and-coming designers and it carries exclusives, too. Barneys is the only store that will carry Kate Moss’ apparel line for Topshop, which arrives Wednesday. The collection includes effortlessly cool signature pieces, lean rock silhouettes to vintage-inspired tea dresses. Prices range from $20 for a cotton racer-back tank to $102 for denim hot pants.
Fashionistas and eco-friendly patrons appreciate Barneys’ hip collections. There’s Loomstate for Barneys Green (Barneys’ way of doing its part for the environment). The line doesn’t scream organic cotton. It’s simple, affordable, soft cotton pieces: fun dresses and street-art-drawn flowers and birds.
Barneys is big on denim and stays current with fashion’s hot trends, including raw denim: The shrink-to-fit stiff denim lines include Levi’s Capitol E for women and Nudie and Crate for men. The beauty of raw denim jeans is that you can make them fit like no other. You must hold off on washing them for six months, though. By then, they’ll stretch and wear to fit your body’s contour. Your patience will pay off to reveal a perfectly fitting pair of jeans.
Barneys Co-op on Level 1 at South Coast Plaza is open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Friday; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call (714) 641-0072 or visit www.barneyscoop.com .
