WOMEN’S GOLF
Fresno State InvitationalFRESNO — The UC Irvine women’s golf team finished tied for second at the Kitahara Fresno State Invitational at the Copper River Country Club Tuesday.
The Anteaters shot 598 for the tournament, two shots behind host Fresno State and tied with Hawaii. The finish is UCI’s best team result of the season.
UCI junior Jane Chin placed third individually with a two-day total of 148, including a 76 on Tuesday, for her best finish of the season. Freshman Henna Cho carded a total of 149 to finish a career-best sixth place.
Junior Selanee Henderson (151) finished in 14th place, junior Kim Lorenzana (154) was 28th and freshman Miriko Makabe (156) was 41st. Makabe had a season-best round of 75 on Tuesday.
MEN’S GOLF
Anteater InvitationalNEWPORT BEACH — UC Irvine finished with all five golfers in the top 15 to win the 27th annual event by a 19-stroke margin Tuesday at Big Canyon Country Club’s par-72 course.
UC Irvine’s Kenny Kim, competing individually, finished in second at even par, four strokes behind University of San Francisco’s Domingo Jojola. Brian Edick was third for the Anteaters with a one-over 217 for the three-day tournament.
The Anteaters last won the tournament 11 years ago.
BASEBALL
Pepperdine 13, UC Irvine 2MALIBU — The Anteaters trailed 8-0 and 13-0 after two and three innings respectively and never had a chance against No. 12-ranked Pepperdine Tuesday.
UC Irvine right fielder Bryan Petersen was two for four, with two RBIs. Chris Lopez and Cory Hamilton combined for three innings of scoreless relief for the Anteaters (10-3-1).

Orange Coast 10, Chaffey 8COSTA MESA — Toby Alderete hit a two-run double in the seventh inning, giving the Pirates a lead they wouldn’t relinquish in a nonconference game Tuesday.
Gabe Cota (three RBIs), Garrett Smith, Wes Kartch, Halston Barcelo and Trevor Tibbetts all had two hits for the Pirates (9-7). Kartch scored three runs, and Smith and Barcelo each scored twice.
Matt Hauser, a Corona del Mar High product, picked up the win in relief for OCC, which opens Orange Empire Conference play Thursday at Fullerton at 2 p.m.
