71, retired elementary school principal for Fountain

Valley School District, died Monday from

complications after heart surgery at Saddleback

Memorial Hospital in Laguna Hills.

Lavelle was born in 1935 and raised in Scranton,

PA. He attended the University of Scranton,

was a Jesuit seminarian, and later a 2nd lieutenant

in the U.S. Marine Corps before marrying his now

deceased wife Mary Mcleod in Long Beach, Ca. in

1963. Soon thereafter, he became an educator and

distinguished principal, as well as an active

member of Saint Simon and Jude and Holy Spirit

Catholic Church. He will be remembered for his

love of family, friends, golf, and the Fighting

Irish. He is survived by his three daughters, a

son, and nine grandchildren. Mary, his

wife of forty-one years, died of breast cancer in

2004. In lieu of flowers, please send

donations to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer

Foundation. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, February 23 at 10.00am at

St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church on Balboa Island in Newport Beach.
