Chamber to hold beach business expo

The Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce will host its Business at the Beach Exposition from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Fairmont Newport Beach, 4500 MacArthur Blvd.

The chamber expects 500 people at the free expo, which was organized so local businesses can network and showcase what they do.

About 60 chamber members participated last year, and this year “dozens” have already signed up, including Hornblower Cruises & Events, Grand Pacific Resorts and the Toll Roads.

Exhibitors will be listed in a program and will have a 6-foot-by-8-foot booth.

Costa Mesa apartments sold by Newport firm

The Newport Beach office of Hendricks and Partners announced the sale of a Costa Mesa apartment building on Avocado Street for $4.4 million.

The 24-unit gated community, called La Costa, has 16 two-bedroom units and eight one-bedrooms. Each unit has a detached garage.

Each unit ended up costing just over $183,000, and the buyer, who has not been named, received credit for roof work, paint and termite-repair work.

The new owner will charge a standard rate of $1,350 for a two-bedroom and $1,095 for a one-bedroom.

Steven C. Brombal represented the buyer and seller, which was also not named.

Newport firm hires new attorneys

Shane E. Coons was recently named a partner at Newmeyer and Dillion LLP, a real estate and business law firm in Newport Beach. Coons practices business and real estate law as a litigator. He also specializes in insurance law. Coons graduated from Loyola Law School.

The law firm also welcomed Diana Chen to its transactional practice and Shawn Ratcliffe to its litigation group.

Healthcare agency hands out 227 awards

The County of Orange Health Care Agency announced Thursday that it doled out 227 awards of excellence to Newport-Mesa food establishments as part of its Food Protection Program.

The award recognizes food establishments’ commitment to keeping their edibles safe and sanitary.

The awards went to businesses including 7-11s, hotels, catering companies, markets and, for the first time, public and private schools. The agency gave 147 awards in Costa Mesa, seven in Corona del Mar and 73 in Newport Beach.

The Food Protection Program was created as an incentive for businesses to maintain and exceed health and safety standards.

Consultants moves base to Newport

Newport Capital Consultants Inc. announced Wednesday that it has relocated its headquarters to Newport Beach from Laguna Niguel.

The consulting firm also announced the election and appointment of two company officers at its Newport office.

Gary E. Bryant was named president, and Suzanne V. Bryant was named corporate secretary.

Newport design firm promotes associate

Newport Beach-based Taylor, an architectural and interior design firm, announced last week that Alyssa Scholz was promoted to associate.

Scholz will be responsible for design, management, programming and planning of projects at the firm.

She has 10 years of experience in the field and has worked on several large-scale projects, including Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and UC Irvine Medical Center.
