One man arrested, one escapes in police chase
One man was arrested and another is still at large after Newport Beach police found other people’s checks and credit cards in the men’s Ford Explorer, authorities said.
Newport Beach police arrested Jason Lee Goodson, 26, of Norwalk at 5:10 a.m. Tuesday on suspicion of possession of stolen property, Sgt. Evan Sailor said. The other man is at-large. Police are still determining his identity.
Officers were patrolling on Avon Street near Riverside Avenue at about 4:30 a.m. when they saw a suspicious vehicle, so they decided to investigate, Sailor said.
Officers “pull up next to them to make a consensual encounter,” Sailor said. “Then both suspects just jump out of the car and take off on foot.”
Police gave chase and caught Goodson but did not find the other man, Sailor said. After police searched the Explorer, they arrested Goodson and took him to Newport Beach Jail. He is being held on $20,000 bail and is expected to be arraigned at the Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach today.
