EDITORIAL - THE LAST WORD:Can’t wait for a taste

We’ve known for some time now that Danny Marcheano and his famed Arches restaurant were moving out of the premises near the corner of West Coast Highway and Newport Boulevard.

But what we didn’t know was that the famed producer Joseph McGinty Nichol, known as McG in Hollywood, was moving in.

Wherever Marcheano goes, we know his customers, us included, will be sure to follow, as his reputation for fine dining, tasty martinis and excellent service is hard to beat.

Still, we can’t help but wonder just what McG, who both angered and delighted his hometown of Newport Beach with his television show “The OC,” will have in store for this locale.

Apparently, a summertime opening is being planned, so we’ll know something soon. The Arches already had a penchant for drawing in the rich and famous, Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall and John Wayne to name a few.

It’s good to know that whatever incarnation the property takes with McG, it’s likely to continue the same, most likely with a younger set of Tinseltown glitterati flocking to his doors.

Should make for a fun summer in Newport Beach.
