Marine View, Spring View dig out titles
Marine View captured three titles and Spring View earned the other as the Ocean View School District middle school boys’ and girls’ volleyball season came to a close with a season-ending tournament.
Eighth-Grade Girls
Sam Clark had 10 kills to lead Marine View past Mesa View, 25-12, 25-16, in the division final. Setters Alyssa Kinoshita and Nicolette Lujan, and the back-row passing of Katie Durant also contributed to Marine View’s triumph.
Sarah Craig had five kills, Shantay Bowden three kills and Francis Oda four digs for Mesa View.
Eighth-Grade Boys
Marine View needed three games to get past Mesa View, 25-20, 15-25, 15-12.
Travis Peugh, Parker Glore, Michale Feirstein and Ryan Shota led the Marine View attack.
John LaRusch finished with 11 kills and two blocks, Oton Rivera had eight kills and two aces, and Justin Meisenholder recorded seven digs for Mesa View.
Seventh-Grade Girls
Spring View won the division by downing Marine View in a tightly-contested final, 26-24, 25-27, 16-14.
Sam Haskin, Amanda Cordeiro and Shannon Butler led Spring View in hitting, serving and all-around court play.
McKenzie McCollum, Karyn Israel and Andrea Kennedy paced Marine View.
Seventh-Grade Boys
Marine View claimed the title with a 25-21, 25-17 sweep of Mesa View.
Standouts for Marine View included LJ Brewster, Jacob Schopp and Austin Lee.
Leading the way for Mesa View were Jose Hernandez with eight kills and three blocks, Brandon Wooton with six kills and two aces, and Kevin Legaspie with 10 digs and strong play along the back row.
