EDITOR’S NOTE: After nearly a year’s hiatus, the Pilot is pleased to welcome back Greer Wylder’s popular weekly column Best Buys.

It’s been too long — almost a year since the last Best Buys column was published in the Daily Pilot. In the interim, I started my own business (www.greersoc.com, an online version of Best Buys) and spent more time with my husband and four boys. When Pilot Editor Tony Dodero asked me recently if I wanted to return to the pages of the Pilot, I was thrilled. It’s good to be back. Now let’s get to some “best buys.”

You can find the lowest prices of the season through Jan. 20 at Fleur de Lys, a great lifestyle and home furnishings boutique on East 17th Street in Costa Mesa. You can save on one-of-a-kind Asian furniture pieces reduced 30%, original Italian etchings reduced 50%, small gift items, including pillar candles, vases and large patinaed tin mirrors.

Sigrid Olsen just opened a new boutique at Fashion Island. Sigrid Olsen’s namesake label offers comfortable apparel and accessories for women. The latest Sigrid Olsen store has a new look, designed to reflect a residential ambience borrowed from Olsen’s seaside home in Massachusetts. There’s a gallery-like living room with Olsen’s artwork, a lounge area, an artist studio, and a central area similar to a kitchen, where all of the action takes place. There’s even an under-counter refrigerator to store bottled water for customers.

Olsen wants customers to feel at home as they shop. She even added personal touches like decorative pillows, lamps with shades and wallpaper custom-printed with handprints and watercolors.
