Boys Division I
Waves 37 Tigers 12: Adam Spies paced the Waves with 10 points, eight rebounds and six steals, while Max Carpenter added 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Alex Turney, Reid Johnson and Dylan Pievac were swarming on defense and combined for 14 points, 15 steals and 14 rebounds. Jake Arnett and Shawn Farsai combined for eight rebounds and Farsai scored his first points of the season.
The Tigers were led by Trevor Marquez, who scored seven points and Justin Ruffalo added three. Austin Mahaffey, Kent Willett, Alexander Gavin and Spencer Rautus played well in defeat.
Spartans 32 Bruins 17: The Spartans beat the Bruins to improve to 2-0 on the season. Cody Caldwell led all scorers with 21 points and added 14 rebounds and eight blocks. Kyle Sherburne added seven points, four rebounds and five assists. The Bruins were led by the physical play of Andrew McCormack and Billy MacDonald, while Taylor Wildman, Ryan Banning and Sean Sullivan also played well.
Red Storm 45 Wildcats 30: The Red Storm beat the Wildcats to notch their first win of the season. They were led by the all-around play of Zach Gayer and Matt LeValley. Trace Curet, Jake Comer, Chris Piggott, Wyeth Rietveld and Chris Robertson and played well in the win. The Wildcats were slow out of the gate, but stormed back in the final three periods to keep the game close. They were led by the hustle and scoring of Ashton Meginnis, Ron Ayzin and Tanner Trauthen. Zach Williams, Armon Alagbhand and Austin Berquist played hard in the loss.
Bruins 44 Wildcats 22: The Bruins opened the winter season with a win over the Wildcats. They were led by Taylor Wildman with 13 points and seven steals. Andrew McCormack added nine points and nine rebounds, while Billy MacDonald chipped in with 10 points and four rebounds. Saahm Aresh, Sean Sullivan, Donovan Hedrich, Ryan Banning and Kian Alisobhany played great defense throughout the game. The Wildcats worked hard in the second half to bring the game closer and were paced by Tanner Trauthen, Ron Ayzin, Ashton Meginnis and Armon Alaghband.
Spartans 37 Tigers 16: The Spartans opened the season with a win over the Tigers. Cody Caldwell led all players with 18 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks. Daniel Degree, Kyle Orton, Kyle Sherbourne and Keaton Phillips all played well in the win. The Tigers were led by the aggressive play of Austin Mahaffey as they outscored the Spartans in the second half. Spencer Rautus, Justin Ruffalo and Alexander Gavin played well for the Tigers.
Waves 38 Red Storm 26: The Waves beat the Red Storm to open the NJB season. Max Carpenter led all players with 16 points, 12 rebounds and two steals. Guards Alex Turney and Adam Spies were stellar throughout, combining for 14 points, 14 rebounds, six steals and eight assists. Garrett Keillor, Reid Johnson and Shawn Farsai all played well for the Waves in the win. The Red Storm kept the game close until the final period and were led by Zach Gayer, Matt LeValley, Jake Comer, Trace Curet and Chris Robertson.
NJB Boys Division III
Huskies 31, Lakers 21: The Huskies jumped to a 24-8 lead at halftime in their win over the Lakers on Sunday. Mario Nark led the Huskies with nine points, including a three-pointer at the buzzer to end the first period. The offense was also sparked by Riley Gaddis with eight points, Jake Hastings (four points) and Parker Chase (three points). Chad Redfearn was on fire defensively with five steals in the game, and Jack Tomei also contributed with a steal. Assists were made by Harrison Hewitt, George MacCabe, Gaddis, Hastings and Nark. The win improved the Huskies record to 2-0.

Boys Under-10 APP Championship
Newport Mesa Mavericks 3, Corona Del Mar Eagles 2: The Mavericks faced off against the CdM Eagles, the only team which defeated the Mavericks in the regular season.
CdM entered the game after putting a 7-0 punishing on Yorba Linda-Placentia in the semifinals, while Newport-Mesa handled Tustin 5-0.
CdM struck first in the opening quarter with a hard shot by Timothy Hanson after a cross from his older brother Justin. However, the Newport-Mesa Mavericks were not to be denied as they answered with three first-half goals by Carson Poivre, Chas Beek, and Jack Binford.
The Mavericks held tough behind the defense of Peter Seidner and the center forward play of Jehu Jogwe. While the Eagles Timothy Hanson added another goal in the second half off a corner kick.
The Mavericks preserved the title with a 3-2 win behind the goaltending of Ryan Braun and Beek.

APP Semifinals
Newport Mesa Mavericks 5, Tustin 0: In the semifinals for the Area Championships the boys under-10 Newport-Mesa Mavericks battled a resilient Tustin team whom they had previously beaten 1-0 and tied 2-2 in the regular season of the Advanced Play Program.
This time, the Mavericks struck first in a hard-fought first half when Carson Poivre went far post just inside the 18-yard line. After a 1-0 halftime score, the Mavericks went into a higher gear with Poivre adding two more goals in the second half for a 3-0 lead. Then Jack Binford added a direct kick and Byron Gutierrez completed the scoring as the Mavericks moved into the championship game against the Corona Del Mar Eagles with a 5-0 win over Tustin. The shutout was preserved with strong goaltending from Ryan Braun and Chas Beek and defense from Caleb O’Neil, Cash Swank, and Dominik Folkner.
