HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP:Barrera beats buzzer in Eagles’ win
COSTA MESA — Senior guard Alondra Barrera connected on a three-pointer at the buzzer, leading the Estancia High girls’ basketball team to its first win of the season — a 43-42 nonleague victory over visiting Garden Grove Tuesday.
Estancia Coach Tommy Rausch said Garden Grove had the ball out of bounds with three seconds left, but Estancia (1-3) forced a five-second turnover before Barrera hit the winner.
Tiffany Monteiro scored a team-high 10 points for the Eagles, Michelle Hallock added nine points and Tamisha Williams made four free throws down the stretch. Barrera finished with six points on two three-pointers.
Estancia plays host to Trabuco Hills on Saturday.

NEWPORT COAST — The Lightning breezed to a 22-2 lead after a quarter and never looked back in their season opener Tuesday.
Sophomore Tierney Danner had a game-high 18 points, Kaitlin Tyre added 16 and Morgan Hembarsky had 15 for Sage Hill, including a three-pointer.
The Lightning play in the Orange Tournament starting Dec. 14 at Orange High.

CORONA DEL MAR — Freshman Hayley Raguse scored in the 48th minute to give the Sea Kings the lead, but Calvary’s Elizabeth Eddy scored on a penalty kick in the 65th minute to force the tie in a nonleague game Tuesday.
Coach Bryan Middleton said goalie Meghan Low, who had seven saves, played very well for CdM (2-2-2), which travels to the Trabuco Hills Tournament on Friday and Saturday.

San Clemente 93, Newport Harbor 75
NEWPORT HARBOR — For the first time in four years, the Sailors’ boys’ short board team defeated surfing power San Clemente, 43-41, but lost in the overall score Tuesday at T Street Beach.
Freshman Jared Cassidy notched the Sailors’ only first place in the boys’ short board.
Girls’ short board South Coast League champion Kaleigh Gilchrist was tops for the Sailors again, but had her only second-place finish in seven attempts this season.
Devyn Hartnett was second in the girls’ long board and Andy Delorne was third in the boys’ long board.

LAGUNA BEACH — Senior Braden Ross scored in the 87th minute, helping the Lightning salvage the tie in a nonleague game Tuesday.
Beau Caillouette had six first-half saves and Jake Blitzer had five saves in the second half for Sage (2-0-1), which plays host to Fairmont Prep on Tuesday.

Mater Dei 63, Costa Mesa 40
SANTA ANA — Nikki Brannon led the Eagles with 11 points, but Costa Mesa couldn’t handle Mater Dei’s press, which allowed the Monarchs to jump out to a 29-7 lead in the first quarter in a pool-play game at the Mater Dei Tournament Tuesday.
Costa Mesa (1-1) will play its second pool-play game Thursday at 3 p.m. against Artesia.
Amy Olivier led Mater Dei (2-3) with 15 points.

Weston Dunlap added 10 points and Chad Stassel had eight for Newport, which jumped out to a 10-point lead after the first quarter.
The Sailors (1-1) continue pool play on Thursday.
