Thanks for your support; now it’s time to serve

I would like to thank all those who supported my election to the Costa Mesa Sanitary District. As I walked the city I enjoyed meeting and talking to many of you. Much kindliness was offered, and I felt truly appreciated for my efforts as I got to about 70% of the voters’ homes.

I will work hard to bring a strong technical presence to the board with fresh ideas and energy blended with what you have told me to provide: cost-effective, environmentally sound sewer and trash services.

Feel free to contact me with ideas and concerns through the district office or at my home, (714) 556-9644.

More housing puts more stress on playing fields

More high-rise condominium residents will need places to recreate. Costa Mesa continues to have a severe shortage of lighted athletic fields. The city should impose a development fee that is specifically earmarked for lighted athletic fields.

How about $250,000 for every floor over four. If you want to build an eight-story high-rise condo, you pony up $1 million. What’s that? The cost of one walk-in closet in the penthouse unit?

Currently, our nonprofit kids’ soccer club can’t get a lighted practice field to rent! All four existing sites are always reserved. With funding, the city can install lights at Costa Mesa High School, Davis School’s track field (next to the new TeWinkle softball complex) or develop something in the Westside’s industrial zone — all places that will not bother the NIMBYs.
