Two men sought in shooting
Costa Mesa Police are searching for two men suspected of shooting at another vehicle late Friday night.
At around 10:50 p.m. Timothy Smith, 21, of San Francisco stopped at a red light at the intersection of Placentia Avenue and 18th Street, police said. A black SUV, either a Ford Expedition or Lincoln Navigator, pulled up along the passenger side of Smith’s Jeep Cherokee, Sgt. Greg Scott said.
“Without provocation, the suspect driver and passenger exit vehicle and [the passenger] fires one round from a semi-automatic firearm into the front passenger side door,” of Smith’s vehicle, Scott said. The two men then got back into the SUV and drove off, Scott said.
According to police, Smith drove to the Newport Beach Police Department, where he and his three passengers reported the shooting.
The driver is described as a Hispanic male between 25 and 30 years old, and the passenger also as a Hispanic male, but in his early 20s. Their locations are unknown at this time, Scott said.
Costa Mesa Police found a bullet casing in the front passenger door, but none of the passengers were injured, Scott said.
