Orange Coast def. Fullerton
COSTA MESA — Kiwi Winkler recorded 18 kills and 17 digs to help give the Pirates a 30-19, 30-21, 30-26 Orange Empire Conference victory Friday.
Jacqi Reed added 14 kills, Ashley Moon 18 digs and Chelsea Spadara 39 assist for OCC (10-0, 3-0 in conference), the No. 1 ranked team in the state that won its 36th straight match.
Lindsay Laakso led No. 13-ranked Fullerton (8-3, 2-1) with 18 kills.

Orange Empire Conference preview meet
ORANGE — The Orange Coast College women won the event with six girls finishing in the top eight in the 5K race at Irvine Park on Friday.
Elda Hernandez captured first place in 19:30. Erendira Uriostegui (second in 19:34), Kelly Oelschlager (third in 20:06.97), 4. Kristin Glen (fourth in 20:07), Kimberly Jennings (sixth in 20:45) and Claire Fleming (eighth in 21:04) followed.
The meet also served as the Howard Brubaker Invitational that included 18 schools. The OCC women won that as well.
The OCC men finished second in the conference preview meet and third in the Brubaker Invitational.
Ernesto Castaneda finished third in 21:14 on the four-mile course for the Pirates. He was followed by Nathaniel Mouzis (sixth in 21:41), Martin Bernard (eighth in 21:42), Travis Foerester (11th in 21:53) and Erik Lopez (18th in 22:30).
The Pirates return to action in the Santa Barbara Invitational on Oct. 14.
MEN’S SOCCER
Irvine Valley 3, Orange Coast 1
COSTA MESA — The Pirates’ Matt Schirmer scored in the 60th minute to tie the score, 1-1, but IVC scored two late goals to earn the Orange Empire Conference win Friday.
Goalie Alex Roberts recorded eight saves for the Pirates (5-6-1, 1-3-0 in conference. The Lasers improved to 5-6-1, 1-3-0.
OCC will play at Golden West on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
MEN’S WATER POLO
UC Irvine 9, Pepperdine 8
IRVINE — Colin Mello scored four goals and Kyle Baxter added three as No. 12-ranked UCI held off the No. 13 Waves in a nonconference game Friday.
UCI’s Cole Bielskis added a pair of goals and goalie Matt Garcia had 16 saves, as the Anteaters (5-8) snapped a three-game losing streak.
