2006 CALIFORNIA BIENNIAL

The Orange County Museum of Art presents the 2006 California Biennial, an event with over 150 works consisting of large-scale installations, sculpture, paintings, works on paper, wall drawing, photographs, film and video art. Exhibition will be in Newport Beach location, at 850 San Clemente Drive, and in Costa Mesa at 3333 Bear Street. Hours vary.

EXPRESSIVE ARTS CONFERENCE

Local therapist Jane Goldberg is producing Orange County’s first Expressive Arts Conference at the Fairmont Hotel, 4500 McArthur Blvd, Newport Beach. Expressive arts therapy uses one or more art forms to counsel, coach and encourage personal growth. Workshops will be offered in all of the arts including painting, music and poetry. BIG BAND DANCE

Travel back in time to the big band days with Les Brown and the Band of Renown, performing at the Balboa Pavilion as part of the Newport Beach Centennial Celebration. The dance will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom overlooking Newport Harbor, and light appetizers and a no-host bar is available. OCEAN RUN

The 20th Annual Harbor Heritage Run through the hills of Newport Heights starts at Newport Harbor High School at 8 a.m. Registration and warm-up is at 6:30 a.m. Event includes a 5K and 2K Fun Run/Walk, Fitness Fair, food vendors and prizes; the course offers ocean and bay views. FALL ART AND FLOWER FESTIVAL

“The Art of Flowers” will be presented at the University of California Irvine Arboretum from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This show features an outdoor art sale inspired by the beaches, parks and wildlands of California. The Arboretum will also hold its Fall Bulb and Perennial Sale, offering various southern African bulbs from their winter flowering collection and fall blooming perennials. FRIENDSHIP STATUE DEDICATED

The Donna and John Crean Mariners Branch Library will celebrate the installation of the Newport Beach Sister Cities “Friendship” statue, presented to the city of Newport Beach by Mayor Koichi Shibata of Okazaki, Japan at 4:30 p.m. Newport Beach Mayor Don Webb and Japanese dignitaries in town to celebrate Newport’s 100th anniversary, will speak at the ceremony, which includes a traditional Japanese dance performed by exchange students from Okazaki.
