Volunteer honor set for Lamb
Back in 1985, when Dave Lamb did his best to gain affection from his two daughters, the seeds of volunteer work began to grow.
What started as a way to become closer with his children, led Lamb into helping the YMCA of Orange County.
Lamb, a Newport Beach resident and a longtime member of the Board of Directors of the local YMCA, will receive the John and Donna Crean Reach Out Award at a gala tonight at the Costa Mesa Hilton.
The award is the top volunteer honor given by the YMCA’s Community Services Branch and is part of the 31st annual Reach Out Awards.
“This is a big honor for me and my family,” said Lamb, who is 60 and owns a real estate business in Irvine.
Shortly after Lamb was involved with the father-daughter programs with Courtney and Kerry, he immersed himself in the YMCA. Then in 1994, he became a member of the YMCA Board of Directors. Throughout his volunteering he worked with fundraising, facility planning and setting policy among other duties.
Lamb, who is an avid sailor and director of the Lido Isle Sailing Foundation, apparently has a deep background in the YMCA. He participated in sports and camps at the Y as a child and his grandfather, Reginald C. Lamb, was also heavily involved.
Lamb said his grandfather helped form the first boys camp for the YMCA in Annapolis, Maryland.
