World Communion Sunday observed

World Communion Sunday will be celebrated at the 9 a.m. Sunday service at Laguna Presbyterian Church.

Linda White, the church’s new choir director, will direct music with an international focus. The worship service will emphasize the brotherhood of man. Communion will be served, and all Christians are invited to participate.

Communion will also be celebrated at the 10:45 a.m. “contemporary” service, led by the Praise Team under Beth Pinney’s direction.

Global warming film to be screened

Neighborhood Congregational Church will sponsor a free showing of the film “An Inconvenient Truth,” at 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8 in the church sanctuary.

The film concerns the issue of global warming and features former Democratic presidential candidate Al Gore.

The screening will be followed by a moderated discussion period. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Blessing of animals Saturday

St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 428 Park Ave., will bless all creatures, large and small, furry and scaly, at 4 p.m. Saturday in the gardens, in commemoration of the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, whose love for animals inspired him to preach to them.
