Treasure Island installation awarded

The Architecture Foundation of Orange County recently announced an “Award of Special Recognition” for the city’s Art in Public Places installation at Treasure Island Park.

The artwork titled “Repose,” by Laguna Beach artist Gerard Stripling, is made of bronze and is located on the peninsula of the park. The five-person jury annually reviews installations to acknowledge and encourage public art in Orange County.

New gallery opens in Laguna

Jim Carona, an art dealers and advisor in the Palm Springs Valley, has opened Rohrer Fine Art in Laguna Beach, at 346 N. Coast Highway. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Carona, working in association with Orange County real estate developer Charlie Rohrer, will feature rare original paintings in the new location, will be the sister gallery to his Heather James Art & Antiquities establishment in Palm Desert.

The collection — which includes works by the Impressionist masters Monet and Degas, modernists Matisse and Picasso, old world masters Fragonard and Tissot, as well as Latin American masters Guayasamin and Kingman — will change frequently. They will be displayed in with classical antiquities, African art, Asian art, tribal art, pre-Columbian art and cutting-edge contemporary artists. For more information, call (800) 949-5211.
