SURFING SOAPBOX:Easy living in the South Seas
Sitting here on the front porch of where we are staying is more beautiful than any postcard that I have ever seen.
Bora Bora is straight ahead of me, 70 miles in the distance where the sunset will be setting at 6:15 p.m. The last four nights we have witnessed the infamous green flash.
Laguna, it seems, is worlds away.
This island is 31 miles around. With about 7,000 people living on it, it is at times the most beautiful and slowest of the places I have experienced.
I have grown used to the fast-paced modern world that we call Laguna Beach. A place where everything is just a fingertip away — the remote control to the TV set, the grocery store, my wireless Apple I-book, cell phones and even my favorite restaurant — which at this time I can’t even remember.
Because although life is slow here, maybe at home in Laguna it is rapidly passing me by.
Having all of the luxuries of home is more than a blessing and something I have taken for granted.
Here on this lovely little island, I have regained what the essence of life is — in watching the sunrise and the sunsets — gazing upon both in absolute awe.
Walking on the beach with someone that I love and sharing the good qualities of life and the simple pleasures that come with it, when you’re willing to put down all of the toys that the modern world has to offer.
Both worlds have their own benefits, however, it is something else to be completely surrounded by what many would call paradise only to realize that home — Laguna — is also paradise.
Just a different type.
Peace.
