Anteaters finish 7th

LA JOLLA — The UC Irvine men’s water polo team defeated Redlands, 14-7 in the seventh-place game of the Triton Invitational on Sunday at UC San Diego.

The victory followed an 8-7 loss to UC Santa Barbara in the consolation semifinals Sunday morning.

Junior Andrew Dunn scored four goals against Redlands to help the No. 8-ranked Anteaters improve to 2-2.

Freshman Kyle Baxter had three goals and senior Curt Merlo had two in the UCI win that included 12 saves by junior Matt Garcia.

Dunn and Baxter had two goals apiece against UCSB, which received one goal from Newport Harbor High product Ross Sinclair.

UCI was down, 7-3, at halftime against UCSB, but rallied to tie the score, 7-7, at the end of regulation. Both UCI losses this season have been in overtime.
