THE CROWD:’Amazing Women’ raise $35,000 for research
They call themselves The Queen of Hearts. Founded by sisters Kim Beaudette, Lori Hunter and Cathy Greinke to honor their late mother Ann S. Dobie, who died from ovarian cancer, the organization joined forces for a luncheon they billed as “Amazing Women” at Ten Restaurant in Newport Beach. More than $35,000 was raised, which will support programs researching ovarian cancer by Dr. Wendy Brewster at UC Irvine Medical Center ? Chao Family Comprehensive. Brewster was on hand, speaking on the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer. Also present were keynote speaker Marsh Eagle, author and relationship expert, and Roxanne Ruzicka, UCI physician and genetics counselor. Generous donors included Susie Titus; Shelley Brose; Jayne Watts; Vernon and Caren Elder IV; and Judy Street, to name a few. Since its founding in 2000, Queen of Hearts has made phenomenal progress, raising more than $600,000 to help fund the goal of making ovarian cancer screening a routine and life-saving event for all women.
The Balboa Bay Club & Resort was the site of a gala evening on behalf of the Glass Slipper Guild, in support of The CHOC Foundation for Children. Organizers called the event “Rockin’ the Kasbah” and attracted a sold-out local crowd of 400 guests. Bob Gail’s Special Events company produced the lively party with a Moroccan theme. Belly dancers set the mood as partygoers arrived for cocktails, dinner and dancing. The big auction items of the night were tickets to the final competition of the TV show “American Idol.” The Glass Slipper Guild is a major support wing of The CHOC Foundation. Over the past decade, dedicated guild members have raised more than $1.5 million in support of CHOC. They hope to meet a goal of $300,000 more this year.
