A 40-year-old Newport Beach woman was approached by two men in the parking lot of Grower’s Direct shopping mall at West 17th Street and Superior Avenue. They demanded her car keys and threatened to rape and shoot her, police said

The woman gave them cash and keys and walked away. At least one of the men got in her silver Volvo SUV and drove away, followed by a car full of the carjackers’ friends. A witness chased them in another car but lost sight of them after a few blocks, police said.

Police recovered the Volvo SUV in San Bernardino.
