Teen being detained for alleged burglary

A 15-year-old Costa Mesa boy was detained by police for allegedly breaking into a home early Friday, police said.

A girl was sleeping in her bedroom when she heard the noise of her dresser drawers being opened. She saw a young man in her room, going through her underwear drawer, Sgt. Marty Carver said. The girl ran out of her room and into her parent’s bedroom.

The teenager escaped the house through a sliding glass door. He made off with some cash he had taken from a purse in the home’s living room.

Police investigating the break-in believe the teenager is the same person who burglarized the home next door in 2004, Carver said.

The teenager was being questioned at the Costa Mesa Police station Friday. It’s unclear what his motive was for the burglary, Carver said.
