Breakers fall to Freedoms
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. ? Pete Sampras earned the lone set victory for the Newport Beach Breakers, who dropped their World Team Tennis match to the Philadephia Freedoms, 23-16, Thursday at Cabrini College.
Sampras defeated Jaymon Crabb, 5-3, in a match resumed after rain brought an early halt to the proceedings on Tuesday.
Sampras has now won back-to-back singles sets after losing his first two singles matches as a Breaker.
Newport Beach fell to 4-6, dropping to fifth place in the six-team Western Conference.
Philadelphia improved to 5-4.
