Let the School Board do its job

What is our Laguna Beach School Board going to do to our schools now?

Well let’s start with what we elected them to do:

Represent everyone, not just someone.

Do their job admirably while self-interested dissenters come and go over their complaints du jour that usually has themselves at the epicenter.

Seek a qualified candidate to fill the board position made vacant by the passing of Dr. K Turner, appoint a suitable interim member and carry on as intended.

It’s easy to throw stones at any public body. There are always going to be ways to slant the facts to show any decision in an unfavorable light that serves a narrow point of view while all the time suggesting that you are the only one looking at things in a way that is “fair and balanced.” And while this seems to be a tactic commonly used to bring attention and make lots of noise, it is rarely fair or balanced.

Here’s a novel idea: How about we let the members of the school board do exactly the job we elected them to do? They have shown for years that they are capable of doing just that. The board members have an exemplary record, and they have been elected by the voters to represent everyone, not just the ones who can stomp their feet and yell vociferously.

Before we threaten to use petitions and costly special elections, might it be prudent to allow the board members to do their job, not try to speculate about the things they might do?

Thank goodness those we elected to do this job are there to serve us, otherwise one of us might actually have to do the mostly thankless job ourselves and suffer the slings and arrows of the narrowly self-interested.

The sky is not falling, the terror alert does not need to be raised and the members of the school board is doing the job to which we all elected them ? and doing it well.
