TAE KWON DO
Six students from Carden Hall School have qualified for the USA Taekwondo Junior Olympics this July in Atlanta. All six, who train at AJK’s Tae Kwon Do in Huntington Beach, earned top six finishes in their respective divisions.
Scott Russell won the gold medal for forms and a silver in sparring. Alexandra Brinkman and Alexandra Henderson each won silver in forms. Trent Zimmerman claimed a bronze in sparring. Sam Jones and Remington Weiss each scored top six finishes in their divisions.
The six students trained under Adam Kinowski, Sandra Wight and J. Kimo Demingoy.

Angels 14, White Sox 4: Chris Evangelatos hit a grand slam, Cort Hastings and Matt English each hit RBI singles and Tommy Bubonic added a run-scoring double in an 11-run outburst in the fourth.
Chase Forrest singled and scored and Mitch Meleski drew a bases-loaded walk in the fourth. Parker Varner walked with the bases loaded to bring in the final run.
Meleski added a triple and Caymen Carter also singled. Matt English had two hits.
Bubonic pitched four innings, striking out eight.
Reign DeLuca doubled, Anthony Daboub hit an RBI single and Justin Le singled for the White Sox.
Angels 6, A’s 3: Mitch Meleski’s three-run blast to left broke open a 3-3 fourth-inning tie. Matt English doubled in Cort Hastings to tie the score in the inning.
The Angels scored in the second inning on doubles by Meleski and Chase Forrest (his fifth hit in as many games). Caden Stark followed with a single in the hole. The Angels loaded the bases in the third inning on singles by Caymen Carter, Parker Varner and Hastings, but Chase Favreau of the A’s notched three consecutive strikeouts.
Evan Daniele struck out eight batters in three innings for the Angels.
The A’s offense was led by Taylor Mitchell’s double and J.C. Genova’s base hit.

MAJOR DIVISION
Costa Mesa Angels 12, Westminster Angels 0: Tyler Sheffner hit three homers and Tyler Taorima and JT McLuckey each homered for Costa Mesa.
Jack Bunker added a ground-rule double, and Garrett Prather, Ryan Taormina and Cody Hanify also had hits. Anthony Dean and Sheffner struck out a combined six batters.
Costa Mesa Angels 11, Fountain Valley A’s 4: Tyler Taorima hit a three-run homer in a seven-run eighth inning for the Angels (9-4). Brendon Bonghanoy added a double.
JT McLuckey pitched out of a jam in the seventh, walking the cleanup hitter with runners at second and third and one out. McLuckey coaxed a fielder’s choice grounder and struck out the next batter.

PONY DIVISION
Daily Pilot 15, William Lyons 4: Daily Pilot scored six times in the second inning. Matt Ruiz, Jack Gerdau and Sam Cubiero each doubled in the inning, with singles coming from Sandon Griffin, Trent Anderson, Austin Blodgett and Jeff Condino.
Ruiz finished with three doubles and two runs scored; Gerdau had three hits and scored twice; Blake Thomsen singled and doubled; Cubiero had two hits and two runs scored; and Blodgett finished with two hits and two runs.
Josh Harrison, Patrick Vorwerck and Thomsen combined to hold William Lyons to five hits.
Mitch Gardner singled and scored twice and Beau Attyah singled and scored a run for William Lyons.
Daily Pilot 7, Desguin 2: Patrick Vorwerck hit a two-run homer and added a single and triple for Daily Pilot. Josh Harrison pitched three shutout innings, followed by Blake Thomsen, Jack Gerdau and Matt Ruiz.
Gerdau singled and scored three times. Left fielder Chris Seagren and third baseman Riley Conroy played well on defense.
Daily Pilot 7, Calvary Chapel 6: Sam Cubiero hit a two-run single with two outs in the seventh inning to lift Daily Pilot.
Patrick Vorwerck had two hits, including a three-run homer, in the first inning. Jack Gerdau had two hits, walked and scored a run. Josh Harrison doubled and Blake Thomsen singled and scored twice.
Matt Ruiz pitched two scoreless innings to get the victory.
Daily Pilot 10, Banta 6: Sam Cubiero doubled in two runs and Chris Seagren singled in the go-ahead run for Daily Pilot (9-7-1) in the fifth inning. Sandon Griffin tripled and Josh Harrison singled in the inning.
Griffin had three hits and scored three runs and Seagren scored twice. Harrison, Cubiero and Thomsen handled the pitching. Jeff Condino, Riley Conroy, Trent Anderson and Austin Blodgett played strong defense.
MUSTANG DIVISION
Pres Companies 10, Sun Cal Companies 3: Cole Sorensen had four hits and four RBIs for Pres Companies. Andrew Chase had three hits and scored three times, Isaiah Suarez had a double and three RBIs and Ryan McCully walked and scored a run. Pres Companies received solid pitching from Brad Tapfer and Keaton Cablay. Bryan Shollin, Quinci Holgate and Grayson Miller also contributed.
SHETLAND DIVISION
Cubs vs. Mets: The Cubs were led by A.J. Stefano (three hits), Lucas Mowery (remarkable switch-hitting), Jantzen Fenn (hit a homer), and sluggers Justin Shollin, Jack Pitchess, John Rankin, Jake Bashore and Cade Kassouf. Rory Sever, Luc Levine, Trevor Cislaw, and Zac Casler played excellent defense.

SPRING SELECT
Newport Beach Breakers 1, Corona del Mar 0: Courtney Buck scored the lone goal on a fourth-quarter breakaway.
Alex Steiner and Kirsten Rohan combined on the shutout, with Steiner making key saves in the third quarter.
Brinley Siemonsma played a strong game, moving up the field on attacks and tirelessly going back on defense in the first half.
Newport Beach Breakers 5, Costa Mesa 0: Drue Cummins opened the scoring in the first quarter. Delaney McCardle passed to her on a free kick and she lobbed in a shot high.
Chelsea Delameter scored twice in the second quarter. The first came off a cross by Peri Howser. The second was on a rebound.
In the second half, short-handed Costa Mesa worked hard and pressured Newport’s goal, but tired late.
Courtney Buck scored on a long breakaway and Howser scored the final goal on a one-timer after a perfect pass from Chelsea Delameter.
Kirsten Rohan earned the shutout, starting some counterattacks with her strong kicks. Sara Hamilton played solid defense. Brinley Siemonsma, Delaney McCardle, Kelsey Long and Cummins were outstanding at controlling the ball at midfield.

GIRLS’ UNDER-8
Red Hot Chili Peppers: The team was at the top of its game, opening with Paris Pratt’s goal. Kailynn Thomas-Huynh scored next, and Emily Goltz and Arianna Rousseau added goals.
Tatum McNutt and Lizzi Larson were solid stopping shots in goal and playing smart defense. Ciera D’Alessandro cleared the midfield of opponents and kept the attack going. Hannah Bodenhamer and Abby Scott played solid defense.
Green Dragons vs. Pink Panthers: The Green Dragons used excellent teamwork. Destry Comp played two quarters in goal, making several stellar saves. Kathryn Arblaster and Caylee Talbot passed the ball forward to the midfield. Midfielders Paula Pedrani, Isabel Jeremias, Katrina Heil and Alexia Hipsher dribbled and passed well. Yasmine Gomez continued her good positioning and passing in the forward position. Julia Ackerman put on a dribbling display, scoring two goals for the Dragons.

Green Monkeys vs. Costa Mesa Green: The Green Monkeys were led by Luke Nataupsky, who set up one goal with a strong kick. Jared Honda, Matthew Mowery and Tanner Casey each scored goals. Mowery and Casey excelled in stopping shots.

Costa Mesa Rage 1, Yorba Linda 0: Helena Secrest, who played the first three quarters in goal, scored in the fourth quarter for Costa Mesa (6-0).
Danielle Young and Crystal Rubright started at forward, with Lei Hookano, Sami Feinstein, Tiffany Le and Kyarah Paplos in the midfield. Jessica Lyons, Katelyn Landt and Shaylen McNulty formed the backline and Amanda Wisniewski played sweeper. Sami Feinstein played the fourth quarter in goal.
Unable to attend the game was Alissa Scheafer, Alex Krohnfeldt and Rebecca Ross, leaving Costa Mesa without substitutes.

SPRING SELECT
Costa Mesa Chaos 3, Tustin 1: Coming off their first loss, the Chaos rebounded with a dominating performance. Jacquelyn Hubbard scored twice and Steffani Nava added a goal in the fourth quarter.
Goalkeeper Elaine Moya held Tustin to one goal with the help of Marlene Calderon, Claudia Huerta and Cynthia Escalante on defense. Emily Gruber, Alba Maria Barrios, Amy Heil and Hubbard provided midfield support for forwards Cristina Tuer, Julyana Bello and Nava.
