The waking world from midnight till dawn
No one would confuse Newport-Mesa with New York, the city that never sleeps. Most local residents are safely tucked into bed and enjoying a good night’s sleep long before the sun rises, and few venture back into the streets before 6 a.m.
But there are some who are still out and about when the clock strikes midnight, and others who rise before the dawn.
There are those who work the graveyard shift, including police officers patrolling the streets.
Some revelers party late into the night, barhopping in Newport or dancing to the latest hot deejay visiting Costa Mesa.
Insomniacs or early risers enjoy fishing on the pier or endeavor to set up for the marketplace at the Orange County Fairgrounds.
For these nocturnal souls, between midnight and six in the morning, Newport Beach and Costa Mesa are the cities that never sleep.
