UCI wins fourth in a row
DAVIS ? UC Irvine’s recent trend of strong starting pitching continued Saturday as the Anteaters utilized 7 2/3 quality innings from freshman Scott Gorgen to earn a 4-2 nonconference baseball win over UC Davis.
Gorgen allowed six hits, two earned runs and struck out six to improve to 6-2. Kyle Necke pitched a perfect 1 1/3 innings for his fourth save.
Junior third baseman Chad Lundahl went two for three with two RBIs, including a two-run double that keyed a three-run fifth inning for UCI (27-17).
Gary Dudrey (two for three with an RBI), Taylor Holiday (two for four) and Danny McCarthy (two runs) also added to the UCI attack.
UCI, which clinched its third straight three-game weekend series victory, has won four straight games and eight of its last nine.
Davis fell to 13-25.
The two teams complete the three-game series today at 1 p.m.
