Sailors advance to roller hockey finals
The Newport Harbor roller hockey team has advanced to the Interscholastic Hockey Federation JV-A championship game with a 10-7 victory over Laguna Hills.
The Sailors, seeded No. 1, will face No. 3 seed Los Alamitos in the finals 8 p.m. Tuesday at the California Hockey Center in Irvine.
Newport Harbor took control early as sophomore Cameron Monahan scored three times in the first period. Rory Campbell added three goals and Preston Kelly had two as the Sailors took an 8-3 lead after two periods.
Laguna Hills rallied in the third period, pulling within one goal with four minutes remaining. Monahan responded with his fourth goal and Sarah Taylor added an insurance goal.
Colin Meatzie had 18 saves in goal for Newport Harbor.
